Otiose: producing no useful result;lacking use or effect.

Concatenate: linked together; to link together with a series of chains.

Milquetoast: a timid, meek, or unassertive person.

    Ferly: unexpected; strange; unusual.

    Spoilers!
I knew "concatenate," "druthers," and "milquetoast" somewhat vaguely and in passing (though "milquetoast" is a new spelling to me), and I managed to work out the other two by virtue of the way they sound. I can think of no better way to put it. Some words just sound like their definition. And I picked off that "ferly" was of Scottish origin. Yay me. :P

    Thanks, Tarissa!
